According to the person in charge of the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, statistics show that in 2009, 4.3874 million sets of waste electrical and electronic products were produced in Beijing, but compared with the huge e-waste, the dismantling rate of waste was only 15%. According to the forecast, the production of waste electrical and electronic products in Beijing during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period will grow steadily at a rate of about 8%. By 2015, 6.9853 million waste electrical and electronic products will be produced, of which the largest number of computers will reach 2.2391 million.
In order to cope with the huge amount of electronic waste, during the 12th Five Year Plan period, Beijing will implement a multi-channel recycling and centralized treatment system for waste electrical and electronic products, establish a diversified recycling system, and centralize the disposal of recycled waste electrical and electronic products. The city will integrate the existing recycling channels, based on the existing recycling network of commercial departments, and establish a multi-channel recycling network of waste electrical and electronic products covering the whole city. In addition, Beijing's e-waste dismantling capacity will also increase. Forecasts show that by 2015, Beijing's waste electrical and electronic products will need to be dismantled and handled by 2.62 million units.
